Governance arrangements

The Australian National Preventive Health Agency Act 2010 (the Act) establishes the agency as a permanent statutory body. The agency is also a prescribed agency for the purposes of the Financial Management and Accountability Act 1997 and it applies to the operation of the agency.

The agency consists of a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and staff. Staff are engaged under the Public Service Act 1999.

The CEO is responsible for managing the agency and is directly accountable to the Minister for Health (the Minister) for the financial management of the agency and to the Standing Council on Health (SCoH), via the Minister, for the agency’s performance against agreed five year strategic and annual operational plans. The Minister also is required to consult with the AMHC about the appointment of the CEO.
